VPN Router
A guide for learning about how to find a great wireless modem router and other types of routers
One of the most sophisticated routers on the market is the VPN router. The VPN router, pioneered by the Nortel company, provides connectivity and security at various levels. Today, other companies, such as CISCO, also manufacture the VPN router. Among the functions that the VPN router provides are routing, managing bandwith, encryption, authentication, and data integrity. It works by using what are called VPN tunnels.
The VPN router at the top end of the market is the VPN 5000, which is great for large enterprises and provides the most highly advanced encryption and authentication techniques, keeping your information safe and giving you a high standard of connectivity. At the price that this is sold for, it is obviously for use by major corporations and enterprises rather than individuals – prices are around $50,000.
Of course, there are also somewhat less expensive models of VPN router for individuals on the market. These include the Cisco wireless G-VPN router, which is offered for sale at $93. And if you are looking for the more sophisticated N-VPN router, you would be able to find it for between $197-$225. The prices are actually pretty affordable depending on your needs.
When choosing your VPN router, you would not only take your budget into account, even though it is obviously a very important factor. You need to find out whether the VPN routers that you are interested in would be sufficient for your needs. Do you need the router for office needs or personal needs? What kind of computer system do you have? What kind of information do you need to protect? The VPN router used by a government office or multinational corporation will be far different from the one purchased by an individual who is seeking to protect his home computer.
The way to find all of this out is to search under “VPN router” on the Internet. Search for consumer reviews and company websites and see what they offer, as well as for how much. There is no such thing as too much research as the integrity of your information and your connection with the outside world is what’s at stake.
A typical use of a VPN router is by offices who want to set up a way for their employees to be able to access their computers and especially their email remotely. Many times, employees have desktops or laptops at work that they do not take home with them at night and on the weekends. If the employee is at home and needs to address something work-related that can only be done on their office computer, they can use a VPN router login to access their files from their home computer and complete the task. This is a great benefit to have for your employees and something you should consider when setting up your technology in your office (if you happen to be an employer).
And once you have your VPN router, hopefully your communications network will work well and efficiently and you will have no regrets.
